Spot Removal Steps from Zachary's Chem-Dry

1. Act Quickly! Most carpet available today has been treated with a stain-resist treatment, so many spills can be removed if immediate action is taken. The longer the delay, the higher the probability of a spill becoming a permanent stain. Remember, staining is influenced by many factors, and no carpet is completely stain proof.

2. Blot liquids with a dry, white, absorbent cloth or white paper toweling (no printing).

3. Do not scrub the area! Scrubbing may cause pile distortion in the affected area. Continue to use a dry cloth or paper towels until the area is completely dry. For semi-solids, gently scrape up with a rounded spoon. Solids should be broken up and vacuumed until completely removed. If the spot can be identified, locate the substance in the spot removal computer and follow the directions carefully.

4. Pretest any spot removal agent in an inconspicuous area to be certain the solution will not damage the fiber or the dye. After applying several drops to the testing area, hold a white cloth on the wet area for 10 seconds. Examine the carpet and cloth for color transfer, color change, or damage to the carpet. If a change occurs, another cleaning solution should be selected.

5. Apply a small amount of the selected cleaning solution to a white cloth and work in gently.

6. Work from the edges of the spill to the center to prevent the spill from spreading. Do not scrub! Blot to absorb as much of the stain as possible. Repeat if necessary.

7. Continue using the first cleaning solution as long as there is a transfer of the spill to the cloth. It is not necessary to use all of the cleaning solutions if the first solution removes the spill.

8. Be patient! Complete removal of the spill may require repeating the same step several times. Do not continue to step 9 until the stain has been completely removed.

9. Rinse the affected area thoroughly with cold water, and blot with a dry cloth until all of the solution has been removed. Some cleaning solutions will cause rapid soiling if the solution is not completely removed.

10. Apply a one-half inch layer of white paper towels to the affected area, and weigh down with a flat, heavy object. Continue to change paper towels as needed. A dry, absorbent, cleaning compound may be used as a substitute to accelerate drying time.

GET YOUR HOME READY FOR BACK TO SCHOOL!

Even though kids and pets track dirt and mud into the home regularly throughout the year, this is especially true during the summer months. Fortunately, the mess once again becomes manageable when school finally starts. In the stress of going back to school, it’s easy to forget about the mess summer has left behind – so let us worry about that.

The exceptional carpet cleaning solution supplied by Chem-Dry allows us to clean deeper and faster than any other company. While steam cleaners use gallons of water and high pressure to drive dirt and moisture down into your carpet, creating a breeding ground for mold and other bacteria, Chem-Dry's unique method uses carbonation to lift dirt up out of your carpet to remove it completely with hot water rather than just hiding the mess. Because minimal water is used, not only does it prevent mold and mildew – it also allows your carpets to dry within hours instead of days! Call us today for a cleaner, healthier home!

Spring Cleaning

Zachary's Chem-Dry is primed and ready to partner with you for this year’s Spring Cleaning!

Clearing out unused items and cleaning up your home helps us feel better. But more importantly, a deep spring cleaning in your home can help your family stay healthy and allergy-free this summer.

Most households can easily have a buildup of dust and dirt that is tracked in during the winter months. In addition, germs from colds, flus and other illnesses stay stagnant in your home when the windows are closed. Opening your windows helps freshen the air, but it doesn't help clear out the buildup of dust, dirt and germs that has built up in your carpets.

Spring and summer can also bring mild or extreme allergies for many people. Over 50 million Americans suffer from allergies. Doing a complete spring cleaning can decrease allergy symptoms by removing dust, mites, bacteria and other allergens hiding on indoor surfaces, carpets, and upholstery.

Cleaning all surfaces, including hard-to-reach and hidden areas can reduce the allergens in your home. Cleaning blinds and removing unused bedding and plush toys can help as well.

We can help your deep spring cleaning efforts by:

- Deep cleaning your carpets, rugs, and upholstery. Our services help remove the hidden allergens in your carpets, and furniture.

- Applying our Sanitizer and Dust Mite Allergen Treatment. These solvents can keep your carpet free of dust mites for an extended time.

What You Need To Know about Your Carpet Warranty

A percentage of what you paid for your carpet went to cover the anticipated costs to the manufacturer for warranty claims.  Warranty claims cost carpet manufacturers millions of dollars every year. And their research shows that claims are more often than not the result of poor or improper maintenance.

So over the last few years carpet manufacturers have begun to tie warranties to required maintenance by the carpet purchaser. Now, just like when you buy a new car, carpet warranties require you to maintain your carpet within certain parameters.  Twenty years ago, carpet mills never talked about required maintenance or any maintenance at all.  It’s a different story now.  And this year the requirements are stricter than ever… and Zachary's Chem-Dry can help you meet these requirements.

But before we get into the new requirements you may be wondering “why is this important to me, I’m not buying new carpet?”  Well, it’s only important if you want to keep your carpet looking as good as possible for as long as possible.  Just because something wasn’t required by the manufacturer when you bought your carpet, it was probably recommended by the manufacturer. And if the new maintenance requirements are good for carpet purchased after January 2007, they’re probably good for carpet purchased before January 2007. And making use of the research that carpet mills have recently put into making carpet last longer, just makes sense.  So with that in mind let’s look at changes in warranty requirements over the last few years and at what is coming “down the road”.

Here are the main issues that the carpet warranties are addressing:

1.     The proper cleaning method.

Virtually all major carpet mills require Hot-Water Extraction (Steam) Cleaning to prevent voiding carpet warranties.(this has been true for several years now)

2.     The proper cleaning schedule.

It varies, but as a general rule, all major manufacturers have a minimum requirement that your carpet be professionally cleaned every 12 to 24 months. (Keep your receipts as proof)

3.     The proper cleaning system.

CRI_Gold_Logo_RGB.jpgThe latest requirement is that you must have your carpets professionally cleaned with equipment tested by the Carpet and Rug Institute.  This is new, and all manufacturers will eventually have to be tested.  But from the limited results so far, the truck mounted systems that have been tested have all been rated GOLD.  Chem-Dry meets this Gold Certification. The portable units have generally been rated BRONZE or SILVER (lower).  Since not all manufacturers have had a chance to be tested, it’s hard to determine an advantage between truck mount manufacturers.  The only pattern that seems to be appearing is that truck mounted units do a better job than portable units (not exactly a surprise) since all the truck mounted units have been rated GOLD.

Zachary's Chem-Dry can help you to meet the necessary requirements to your carpet warranty and can help keep your carpet looking like new longer. The bottom line is that proper maintenance will help you get a greater return your carpet investment, no matter when it was purchased.

Pet odor results based on testing with the most common odor sources found in dog and cat urine. Pet urine bacteria results based on Chem-Dry’s HCE cleaning process and a sanitizer, combined with P.U.R.T. All bacteria results include use of sanitizer. Figures are an average across multiple tests.
