Facts About Urine and Your Carpet

As soon as a pet urinates on the carpet, warm acidic liquid immediately becomes a breeding ground for bacteria.  The acidic urine begins to oxidize on the carpet fibers, creating a color change which is often permanent.  The urine spreads down into the pad and sub-floor.  Once urine begins to dry, the moisture evaporates, microscopic salts and crystals are formed that

remain in your carpet, pad and floor.  The crystals and salts react to the humidity which cause the crystals and salts to give off a heavier urine smell.  This often occurs in the summer when it is humid and in the winter when the household heat is on.  Urine odors last for years in carpet.  In order to eliminate the odor, the crystal and salt deposits must be permanently deactivated. Animals are creatures of habit and tend to return to the same areas.  Determining the total amount of urine in the carpet is critical in order to ensure our procedure is effective.

Pet Urine Odor Removal Steps

Certified Chem-Dry technicians will determine the source and the severity of the damage and provide you with a "Total Care Cost" to restore your carpeting and upholstery.

Upon your approval, Chem-Dry technician will then flush and deep extract the urine damaged areas until no signs of urine can be seen.

The technician then applies a heavy sanitizer that will go after the unhealthy bacteria. 

Then the technician  cleans the urine damaged areas very thoroughly and  applies the P.U.R.T.® heavily enough to dampen all areas affected by urine.

Over the next 24 to 48 hours, the ingredients in P.U.R.T.® will oxidize the urine salts and crystals and eliminate the odor.

Special Notes:

P.U.R.T.® is a liquid topical treatment.  The treated area needs to stay wet for 24-48 hours.  Avoid wet carpets.  Use caution when stepping off wet carpet onto a hard surface.  While the urine is off-gasing, open window slightly to let the odor escape the home (weather & safety permitting).
